a dance with light

Objects appear invariant in shape, even though the light information that lands on the retina is constantly changing. From this pattern on the retina, we infer a 3D surface that light interacted with to cause that particular pattern, and experience that inferred cause as an object in the world. Thus the relationship between 3D surface and reflected light is one critical to visual perception, but normally experienced only through inference. A Dance With Light brings this relationship directly into visual experience, as ephemeral shapes appear during momentary agreement between projection and surface, only to disappear when that accordance fails.
